The editors at [[ThrillingPublications Thrilling Publications]] opted to create the Sterling byline after //Captain Future//ís author [[HamiltonEdmond Edmond Hamilton]] informed them that he was expecting to join the Army in 1942.

Thrilling asked [[SanachsonJoseph Joseph Sanachson]] to write two stories for after Hamiltonís induction. But when Hamilton failed to qualify for service because of minor health issues, Thrilling editors decided to continue using the Sterling name. [[WellmanManlyWade Manly Wade Wellman]] also wrote one //Captain Future// novel under the Sterling byline.
