When I was offered this blog, I took it because in many ways it was an extension of what I had started to do with reviews on Amazon. And I continue to put reviews there, most often a copy of my reviews here, though put there after they appears here.
As I noted in my second posting way back when, when I got back into the pulp world, I was enjoying many books coming from small presses publishing both New Pulp and classic pulp reprints. And I found that often the descriptions with the books weren’t that great, and other reviews weren’t that great either.
And the thing is, authors need reviews. If their books aren’t coming from the major publishers, there is little way of promoting their works, especially if they aren’t being promoted in bookstores. So for them to “rise” in the world of Amazon, they need readers who posting their likes and reviews such that it will help attract further readers.
And writing a good review, or even a decent review, isn’t difficult. If you are going to tell a friend how you like a book such that they’d want to read it, what would they tell them? That can be your review. But you need to post it.
Also, please don’t post complains about shipping. Book reviews are not the place for that. I see that sometimes from other people, and it’s not good, as it affects the author and he has no control over that.
Bottom line, post your reviews. Help authors you like. This is how it works in the current publishing environment.
For publishers or authors: If you have books that you would like me to review, please let me know using my contact form. I’ve found some authors this way. Personally, I prefer physical books then ebooks.
I always tell people that the fastest way to get me to write a new book is to write a review of the last one I wrote.
Reviews are like gold.
