Artwork Non-fiction Pulps References Review

‘The Amazing Lomazow Collection’

A new volume of pulp history I picked up is The Amazing Lomazow Collection, published by John Gunnison‘s Adventure House in 2025.

The Amazing Lomazow CollectionThis large-size, full-color book is over 370 pages and highlights the pulp collection of Dr. Steven Lomazow. This collection is made up of 1,000 issues, almost all first issues. This book highlights those issues, organized chronologically, with historical information provided as well.

The book is made up of seven chapters, most covering a decade each from the 1880s to the 1950s. Each chapter starts with a historical overview and includes a listing of the new magazines started in that decade. Along with the pictures of the covers are often additional information about the magazine. We would get from one to eight covers on a page.

I found this a very nice volume and worth getting. While one can find scans of pulp covers, here they are arranged in chronological order with historical information with them, something you’re not going to find with just online searching.

And while there are several good pulp magazine references out there, most do not print the covers in color. This is a book that is good to use alongside other works like the Blood ‘n’ Thunder Guide to Pulps and the like.

I encourage pulp fans to get this volume while it’s available. Who knows how long it will be made available?
