We’ll focus on all things pulp, but from a fan’s perspective (the fan being me).

The main focus will be “classic pulp” from pulp magazines. We will also cover: pulp reprints, New Pulp, pulp magazines’ influence on culture, pulp fictioneers, etc. We will touch upon fiction that came before pulp and influenced it (dime novels and story papers). We will touch on “foreign pulp,” from Europe and the like (yeah, pulp isn’t just American). We will talk about pulp fanzines. We may talk about movies, TV, and comics but only if they are clearly pulp influenced. Modern fiction (beyond the clear New Pulp movement) will only be covered if I feel there is a pulp influence (I actually find that some “techno thrillers” are a kind of new pulp). There will be a lot of reviews, but I will speak of my views of pulp.

When it comes to pulp, there are certain areas I am most interested in. My first pulp reading was in classic science fiction, then I got into pulp heroes (Doc, Shadow, et al), later into Lovecraftian fiction (Cthulhu mythos and all) and occult detectives (like Carnacki, characters by Manly Wade Wellman, etc.), and today more techno thrillers and New Pulp. When it comes to detective work, I more prefer Sherlock Holmes and similar characters to hardboiled detectives or the like. And I also read non-fiction works about pulps. So all this will come into the mix.

This blog will steer clear of non-pulp topics, particularly politics or personal material. I have more interests then pulp, but only that area will be covered here.

I hope you all enjoy!

Welcome to the new Pulp Super-Fan blog.
