For 2022, we got two issues of The Bronze Gazette<\/a><\/em>: #91 and #92.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>This is the premier Doc Savage<\/a> fanzine, which is offered in subscription sets of two to three issues. Thus for 2022 the subscription was for two issues. And I’m going back to reviewing all issues within those sets at once.<\/p>\n

\u25a0 The Bronze Gazette<\/em> #91 (June 2022), as always, is a strong issue with some great articles and artwork. Front and back covers are both interesting. We get a short article with Lil’ Doc<\/strong> comics done in the style of Charles Schultz<\/strong>‘s Peanuts<\/em> comic strip. Lester Dent<\/a><\/strong>‘s custom-built home is the subject of another article, with several pictures. I’ve only previously seen black-and-white photos, so it is nice to see some good, color photos. Tim Faurote<\/a><\/strong> has an article with several photos showing how he created some bronze Doc Savage<\/a> plaques.<\/p>\n

A different take is a review of a 1950s science-fiction movie called The Gamma People<\/em>. I had heard of it, but not seen it. The reason for its inclusion is the main two characters are similar to Ham<\/a><\/strong> and Monk<\/a><\/strong>. You can see the full movie in YouTube<\/a>, as no one has yet brought this out on DVD or Blu-ray.<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>Will Murray<\/a><\/strong> takes a look at who might have written the scripts for possible Doc movies. Charles Moran<\/strong> was the editor of the Doc pulp for a brief time after John Nanovic<\/a><\/strong>, so we get an article on him and his short tenure. Julian Puga<\/strong> takes a look at the Explorers Club and its connection to Doc.<\/p>\n

\u25a0 The Bronze Gazette<\/em> #92 (December 2022) focuses on James Bama<\/a><\/strong>, who passed away recently. We get a series of articles by various fans on Bama and his artwork. Contributors include Duane Spurlock<\/strong>, Ron Hill<\/strong>, Scott Cranford<\/strong>, Howard Wright<\/a><\/strong>, Kez Wilson<\/strong>, and Will Murray. Bob Larkin<\/a><\/strong> tells of almost meeting Bama over the years. Tim Faurote’s article shows his various takes on the back-cover piece of Doc and his men with others in their place. Chuck Welch<\/a><\/strong> provides info on some surveys on the Flearun group<\/a> at Facebook regarding fans’ favorite Bama cover and related questions. This is a great tribute to this artist.<\/p>\n

And another article by Ron Hill looks at the new “Doc Savage” novel, The Perfect Assassin<\/em>. I will be reviewing this in the future.<\/p>\n
