Thus for 2023, the subscription was for three issues. And I&#8217;m going back to reviewing all issues within those sets at once.<\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/bronze-gazette\/\">The Bronze Gazette<\/a><\/em> #93 (April 2023)<\/strong>, under a very nice <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/mark-wheatley\/\">Mark Wheatley<\/a><\/strong> cover, has a collection of articles from new and old contributors. Mark provides an article explaining the cover, with an interesting speculation about <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doc-savage\/\">Doc Savage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/howard-wright\/\">Howard Wright<\/a><\/strong> has three articles about an obscure 1975 one issue Doc <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/category\/fanzines\/\">fanzine<\/a> called <em>The Man of Bronze<\/em>. Don&#8217;t worry if you&#8217;ve never seen it, I haven&#8217;t. You can download it off the <em>Bronze Gazette<\/em> website. He contacted the creator of the &#8216;zine, <strong>John Boehm<\/strong>. Another article is on his collaborator and art director, New Pulp author <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/mark-justice\/\">Mark Justice<\/a><\/strong> who recently passed away. Among other works, he did the <em>Dead Sheriff<\/em> series at <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/airship-27\/\">Airship 27<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/will-murray\/\">Will Murray<\/a><\/strong>, we get a reprint of his article on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doug-wildey\/\">Doug Wildey<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s Doc Savage work. Another article is on the use of AI art, which has become well-known in recent times. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/craig-mcdonald\/\">Craig McDonald<\/a><\/strong> &#8220;ships&#8221; <strong>Pat<\/strong> and <strong>Renny<\/strong> in his piece. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/malcolm-deeley\/\">Malcolm Deeley<\/a><\/strong> looks at Doc and women. I think many people online have at least heard of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doc-talos\/\">Doc Talos<\/a><\/strong> works, which is a pastiche of a pastiche, as he&#8217;s not based on Doc Savage, but on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doc-caliban\/\">Doc Caliban<\/a><\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/alexandre-levasseur\/\">Alexandre LeVasseur<\/a><\/strong> provides an overview of it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[16123]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-17710\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94-662x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Bronze Gazette #94\" width=\"350\" height=\"541\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94-662x1024.jpg 662w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94-768x1188.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-94.jpg 970w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a>\u25a0 <strong><em>The Bronze Gazette<\/em> #94 (July 2023)<\/strong> uses <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/bob-larkin\/\">Bob Larkin<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s &#8220;try-out&#8221; Doc cover that previously has only been shown once or twice in a smaller size. He also provides a short article on how it came about. I also see it being offered as a full-size limited-edition print.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/rick-forgus\/\">Rick Forgus<\/a><\/strong> looks at the cover artwork of Doc, but in the Style Moderne, with some very interesting samples of this he created. From <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/daryl-morrissey\/\">Daryl Morrissey<\/a><\/strong> is one of his &#8220;Refractions in Bronze,&#8221; this time on &#8220;The Devil Genghis.\u201d Next, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/steve-donoso\/\">Steve Donoso<\/a><\/strong> looks at the final Doc novel, but also what was going on with the Street &amp; Smith pulps from the editorial side. I knew some of this but not at this level of detail.<\/p>\n<p>We then get a &#8220;creative mythology&#8221; article, by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/atom-mudman-bezecny\/\">Atom Mudman Bezecny<\/a><\/strong>, linking <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/j-g-ballard\/\">J.G. Ballard<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s 1975 novel <em>High-Rise<\/em> and Doc. &#8220;The Original Monk&#8221; is the subject of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/glen-held\/\">Glen Held<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s article. In particular, gangster <strong>&#8220;Monk&#8221; Eastman<\/strong>. I remember <strong>Charles Atlas<\/strong> more from the various comicbook ads, and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/mark-lambert\/\">Mark Lambert<\/a><\/strong> looks at a possible link to Doc. And we get the first of a series of &#8220;what if&#8221; articles about <strong>Clark Savage Sr.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u25a0 <strong><em>The Bronze Gazette<\/em> #95 (December 2023)<\/strong> gives us a wrap-around cover by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/Kez Wilson\/\">Kez Wilson<\/a><\/strong>, plus we get an array of Doc artwork through the issue by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/kevin-dale-duncan\/\">Kevin Dale Duncan<\/a><\/strong> that was created for a Doc project that never happened.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[16123]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-17711\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95-664x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Bronze Gazette #95\" width=\"350\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95-664x1024.jpg 664w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95-194x300.jpg 194w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95-768x1185.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/12\/bronze-gazette-95.jpg 972w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/matt-hiebert\/\">Matt Hiebert<\/a><\/strong> writes of his experiences encountering <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/boris-vallejo\/\">Boris Vallejo<\/a><\/strong> as the cover artist on the Bantam Docs. Daryl Morrissey gives us a different take on the creator behind Doc Savage and his development.<\/p>\n<p>The original publisher of the <em>Bronze Gazette<\/em>, <strong>Howard Wright<\/strong>, gives us the story of the &#8220;other&#8221; <em>Doc Savage Quarterly<\/em>. And if you&#8217;re not sure why we say &#8220;other,&#8221; it&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/bill-laidlaw\/\">Bill Laidlaw<\/a><\/strong>&#8216;s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doc-savage-quarterly\/\">Doc Savage Quarterly<\/a><\/em>, which I&#8217;ve posted on, is what most people think of with that name.<\/p>\n<p>Alexandre LeVasseur, who has been writing new stories with <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/adventurers-inc\/\">Adventurers Inc.<\/a>, talks about the differences between their only novel, <em>The Crazy Indian<\/em>, and the Doc novel it loosely based on, &#8220;The Magic Forest.&#8221; Will Murray continue his investigation into additional people who may or may not have ghosted Doc novels. I had thought this was a topic that had been addressed, but I guess not. And we will get a further article I think in the next issue.<\/p>\n<p>Also, as I subscriber I got #95.5, which is the 2023 Christmas card.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s another great set of issues, and I will again be subscribing for the next set.
