This issue is themed around \u201cpulp characters on the big screen,\u201d starting with another great pair of covers by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/tim-faurote\/\">Tim Faurote<\/a><\/strong> and includes a great trio of articles and lots of art.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[16848]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-16863\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8-780x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Pulp Fan #8\" width=\"350\" height=\"459\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8-780x1024.jpg 780w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8-229x300.jpg 229w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8-768x1008.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2023\/07\/pulp-fan-8.jpg 1143w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a>Like other issues, it is printed on slick paper with color covers and interiors, running around 40 pages in total.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/will-murray\/\">Will Murray<\/a><\/strong> is a long article on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/walter-gibson\/\">Walter Gibson<\/a><\/strong> and his creation of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/the-shadow\/\">The Shadow<\/a><\/strong> and his views of the movie adaptions starting with the pair from Grand National: <em>The Shadow Strikes<\/em> and <em>International Crime<\/em>. Some of these movie adaptions were based on his works. This is a kind of different take on The Shadow movies, as it is as much an article on Gibson as it is on the movies.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/the-spider\/\">The Spider<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s movie serials is the subject of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/michael-f-housel\/\">Michael F. Housel<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s article. These are <em>The Spider\u2019s Web<\/em> and <em>The Return of the Spider<\/em>. As it may not be easy for some to see both of these serials, this is a good overview of both.<\/p>\n<p>Whether or not the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/doc-savage\/\">Doc Savage<\/a><\/strong> movie is good or bad is the subject of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/dennis-kininger\/\">Dennis Kininger<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s article. Many fans have a dim view of this campy movie by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/george-pal\/\">George Pal<\/a><\/strong>. I think he did a good job of going into detail on this movie.<\/p>\n<p>We get several <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/frank-hamilton\/\">Frank Hamilton<\/a><\/strong> pieces, but not as many new pieces of art. All three articles do include several stills and other pieces from the movies being discussed.<\/p>\n<p>This is another great issue, and as is noted in the editorial, Jim has now equaled his other pulp fanzine, the excellent <em><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/zine-of-bronze\/\">Zine of Bronze<\/a><\/em>, which lasted eight issues.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pulp Fan<\/em> #9 is planned and all we know is it will feature two early pulp characters who are still getting new stories.
