The next three volumes are:

Night Vision: Death Takes a Number

Jack Saxxon: Fortune Hunter

The Purple Mystique: Purple Masquerade

All have excellent covers by Jeffrey Ray Hayes, who has been doing other New Pulp covers of late. These continue the styling started with the second wave of titles.

The eighth volume has The Night Vision, who first appeared in Pulp Reality #4 in a story that was reprinted in the second volume. He is a New Pulp hero set in the same world as Capt. Steven Hawklin and The Purple Mystique, though they have not met.

The first story was set in 1935; he had been operating for six years prior. This one is set in 1940. College professor Simon Rook has a curse. Suffering from day blindness, he is shown visions of soon-to-be victims of violent crimes. He has been going out at night to stop the crimes and save the victims. So far, only Atticus Harper knows his secret, though this might change after this story.

In this one, his visions seem to be changing, as for the first time, he actually sees the face of the murderer. Will he be able to stop the murder from happening? And what is the connection to Nazis, which isn’t surprising considering the time period? What will future stories hold for our hero?

The ninth volume gives us a new character, Jack Saxxon: Fortune Hunter, in “The Blackwater Buccaneers.” Saxxon is a treasure hunter or salvager based in the Florida Keys, though where exactly is not indicated. While Hawklin is mentioned, the time period isn’t clear, but it isn’t modern times. I’m assuming post-WWII.

Saxxon is approached by Tate Baller and his associates, wanting him to help with finding a pirate ship, the Raven, which is supposed to be in an area of the reef called the Blackwater Tide. Saxxon refuses. Then six weeks later, Baller’s daughter, Silvia, comes looking for Saxxon for help in finding her father, which Saxxon reluctantly agrees to do. What do they find, and will they succeed?

As someone familiar with the Keys, I do have to point out that there really aren’t any beaches, certainly not like in the rest of the state. Also, we speak of “bay side” and “ocean side,” not the Gulf. There is no Blackwater Tide, but there is a Blackwater Sound near Key Largo, though it’s not the same in any way.

The tenth volume has The Purple Mystique, who first appeared in Pulp Reality #3 and was reprinted in the first volume of this series, with a new story in the fourth volume. She is similar to The Green Hornet, wearing an outfit in purple and using a unique gas gun, with only the assistance of her driver, Danny Brocko.

The Mystique has been going after minor thugs; now she is going after a mobster, Bobby Two-Tone. We don’t yet know her background or origin, or who she is. Is she the nightclub singer, the gangster’s moll, or the DA’s daughter? Hopefully, this will come out in future stories, especially as there is some kind of connection to Bobby Two-Tone.

This time, the Mystique is looking at someone else, philanthropist Mitchell Stanley. He looks squeaky clean, but is he? There seems to be something amiss at the charity Boys’ League. Or is it really Bobby Two-Tone? Can the Mystique figure things out before it all goes wrong? And what does it mean for the future?

This continues to be a great series of stories, and at the price, a great way to get into these characters. We are promised a fourth wave of volumes, but I have no idea when — hopefully later this year. Also check out the latest collection of Captain Hawklin stories that also came out this past summer.

Stormgate Press, publisher of Captain Hawklin and Pulp Reality, has put out the third wave in their series of Stormgate Press Quick Read Books with three new books.
