We get some stand-alone works, as well as volumes of various subseries. This selection seems very heavy on crime and detective stories and series.<\/p>\n<p>Most are taken from the pulps started by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/frank-a-munsey\/\">Frank A. Munsey<\/a><\/strong>, who converted his fiction magazines to pulp paper and reduced their price, making them more profitable. He published the well-known <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/argosy\/\">Argosy<\/a><\/em> magazine, which got its start in the late 1800s, and several other popular magazines such as <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/all-story\/\">The All-Story<\/a><\/em> and <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/detective-fiction-weekly\/\">Flynn\u2019s Detective Fiction Weekly<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Series XIX consists of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Up Jumped the Devil<\/em>, by Cleve F. Adams<\/li>\n<li><em>The Brothers of the Snake: The Complete Chinatown Cases of Jimmy Wentworth<\/em>, Vol. 3, by Sidney Herschel Small<\/li>\n<li><em>A Clue to the Copper: The Complete Cases of Silver Skull<\/em>, by Richard Howells Watkins<\/li>\n<li><em>Kingdom of the Lost: The Adventures of Peter the Brazen<\/em>, Vol. 8, by Loring Brent<\/li>\n<li><em>Worth Millions<\/em>, by Richard Barry<\/li>\n<li><em>Tiger Dick\u2019s Doubloons<\/em>, by Don McGrew<\/li>\n<li><em>Presidents: Imaginary Moments in the Lives of America\u2019s Great<\/em>, by Theodore Roscoe<\/li>\n<li><em>Cross Over Nine<\/em>, by Max Brand<\/li>\n<li><em>Asoka\u2019s Alibi: The Complete Adventures of Ben Quorn<\/em>, Vol. 2, by Talbot Mundy<\/li>\n<li><em>The Lost Punch: The Complete Cases of Gillian Hazeltine<\/em>, Vol. 4, by George F. Adams<\/a><\/strong>. This one appeared in <em>Cosmopolitan<\/em>. A prior work, <em>Sabotage<\/em>, was reprinted in the Argosy Library previously. This time, when he gets to San Francisco, he finds a dead man in his hotel room and his bag cut open. Can he get to the bottom of things with crooked cops, mobsters, and socialites involved?<\/p>\n<p>With <em>The Brothers of the Snake<\/em>, we get the third volume of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/jimmy-wentworth\/\">Jimmy Wentworth<\/a><\/strong>, the detective assigned to Chinatown who must deal with the sinister kingpin <strong>Kong Gai<\/strong>. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/sidney-herschel-small\/\">Sidney Herschel Small<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s series ran 28 stories in <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Detective Fiction Weekly<\/em>, so we should be getting two more volumes. This should be another interesting collection of Chinatown crimes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Silver Skull<\/strong> was a short-lived series of only three stories that appeared in <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Detective Fiction Weekly<\/em>. <em>A Clue to the Copper<\/em> contains the complete series by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/richard-howells-watkins\/\">Richard Howells Watkins<\/a><\/strong>. The Silver Skull is an unusual character, once a decorated military captain and later a condemned killer, who lives on as a haunted avenger with a silver plate in his skull. He works to hunt down and expose a criminal mastermind known only as the <strong>Copper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We get the eighth and final volume of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/peter-the-brazen\/\">Peter the Brazen<\/a><\/strong> series by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/loring-brent\/\">Loring Brent<\/a><\/strong> (actually <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/george-f-worts\/\">George F. Worts<\/a><\/strong>) with <em>Kingdom of the Lost<\/em>. Here, Peter must confront the <strong>Octopus<\/strong> and save <strong>Susan O\u2019Gilvie<\/strong> in the finale of the series.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>Worth Millions<\/em> by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/richard-barry\/\">Richard Barry<\/a><\/strong>, a penniless bookkeeper is named by the richest man in Westchester as trustee for his daughter. We get a story that whirls around <strong>Imogen<\/strong>, the man who loves her, and the magnate.<\/p>\n<p><em>Tiger Dick\u2019s Doubloons<\/em> gives us an interesting sea tale by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/don-mcgrew\/\">Don McGrew<\/a><\/strong>. <strong>Ned Allen<\/strong> takes passage to America and, along the way, meets a larger-than-life seaman in <strong>Tiger Dick Buntline<\/strong>. We get a tale of brawls, shipwrecks, and more in a quest for buried treasure.<\/p>\n<p>From the prolific <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/theodore-roscoe\/\">Theodore Roscoe<\/a><\/strong>, we get <em>Presidents: Imaginary Moments in the Lives of America\u2019s Great<\/em>. As noted, these are imaginary tales, such as what if <strong>George Washington<\/strong> had accepted a crown, and more. This seven-story series appeared in <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">The Argosy<\/em> from 1939 to 1941.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[22070]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-22511\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch-681x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Lost Punch\" width=\"350\" height=\"526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch-681x1024.jpg 681w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch-768x1155.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/01\/lost-punch.jpg 997w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><em>Cross Over Nine<\/em> is another mystery tale by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/max-brand\/\">Max Brand<\/a><\/strong> (<strong>Frederick Faust<\/strong>) that appeared in <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Detective Fiction Weekly<\/em> in 1934. <strong>John Witherby<\/strong> comes home to claim his granduncle\u2019s fortune, only to find a corpse and a strange message. Hunted by a gang, he must follow a trail of secrets and betrayals to get to the bottom of things.<\/p>\n<p>From <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/talbot-mundy\/\">Talbot Mundy<\/a><\/strong> is the conclusion to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/ben-quorn\/\">Ben Quorn<\/a><\/strong> series, <em>Asoka\u2019s Alibi<\/em>. Ben Quorn is an American living in British India and is the only one who can tame the elephant <strong>Asoka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/gillian-hazeltine\/\">Gillian Hazeltine<\/a><\/strong> is another creation of George F. Worts, a fighting lawyer whose battleground is the courtroom. <em>The Lost Punch<\/em> has the next two stories in the series, which ran about 30 stories, mainly in <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Argosy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As always, there are several volumes here I plan on getting, others that I might get, and some I do not have an interest in. This is always true of this series. But I hope everyone takes a look at their offerings. There are some series I was hoping we would get another volume of this time.
