It was published quarterly for several years and then ended with issue No. 84 in 2023. It featured articles on a variety of illustration artists who did advertising art, book and magazine covers, and interior artwork, including some pulp magazine artists.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[22526]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-22546 image-border\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89-790x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Illustration #89\" width=\"350\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89-790x1024.jpg 790w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89-768x996.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-89.jpg 1157w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/daniel-zimmer\/\">Daniel Zimmer<\/a><\/strong> is the person behind it and was a main contributor, though others such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/david-saunders\/\">David Saunders<\/a><\/strong> also contributed articles. Some of these pieces were later expanded into large-format hardcover books.<\/p>\n<p>But Zimmer brought it back with No. 85, now on a subscription basis, with back issues available on <a href=\"https:\/\/the-illustrated-press.myshopify.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its website<\/a> while supplies last. I do not believe it is being carried by any reseller. He is offering subscriptions for four issues.<\/p>\n<p>I previously looked at issues No. 85-88. Now I will look at the next four issues. Subscriptions are available for the upcoming issues. As always, since this blog is pulp-focused, I will concentrate mainly on the pulp illustrators featured in these issues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No. 89 (November 2025)<\/strong> features Daniel Zimmer providing articles on two artists: <strong>Carlo Demand<\/strong> and <strong>Bruce Bomberger<\/strong>. Carlo Demand seems to have specialized in illustrations of vehicles, cars, planes, and boats, often shown in action. Bomberger mainly did artwork for <em>The Saturday Evening Post<\/em>, and his work was very enjoyable. Completing the issue is another article by Zimmer on \u201cThe Marginalized Male Gaze in Postwar Women\u2019s Magazines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[22526]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-22547 image-border\" src=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91-790x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Illustration #91\" width=\"350\" height=\"454\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91-790x1024.jpg 790w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91-231x300.jpg 231w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91-768x996.jpg 768w, https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/files\/2026\/02\/illustration-91.jpg 1157w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><strong>No. 90 (December 2025)<\/strong> again has Daniel Zimmer providing articles on two artists: <strong>William P. Welsh<\/strong> and <strong>James Bingham<\/strong>. I found Welsh\u2019s artwork particularly interesting. It has a somewhat Art Deco feel. While Bingham mainly worked on mainstream magazines, I very much enjoyed his work as well. Rounding out the issue is an article by <strong>Dennis Raverty<\/strong>, Ph.D., on \u201cRepresenting the \u2018American Dream\u2019: Postwar Optimism and Cold War Dread,\u201d which looks at advertising art of the period.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No. 91 (January 2026)<\/strong> looks at three artists, all covered by Daniel Zimmer: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/emmett-watson\/\">Emmett Watson<\/a><\/strong>, <strong>David Levine<\/strong>, and <strong>Dan Content<\/strong>. Watson worked in the pulps for magazines such as <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/argosy\/\">Argosy<\/a><\/em>, <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Adventure<\/em>, <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/detective-fiction-weekly\/\">Detective Fiction Weekly<\/a><\/em>, <em class=\"pulp-magazine\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/railroad-mans-magazine\/\">Railroad Stories<\/a><\/em>, and others. I have seen many of his covers reused for recent reprints from <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulpsuperfan\/tag\/steeger-books\/\">Steeger Books<\/a>. I believe I have seen Levine\u2019s caricature artwork dating back to the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p><strong>No. 92 (February 2026)<\/strong> features three more artists, again all covered by Daniel Zimmer: <strong>Keith Ward<\/strong>, <strong>Sarah S. Stillwell<\/strong>, and <strong>Walter Everett<\/strong>. None of them worked for the pulps, but I enjoyed Keith Ward\u2019s children\u2019s cover art and advertising illustrations. Walter Everett created many magazine covers and had a distinctive artistic style.<\/p>\n<p>I have subscribed for the next four issues and encourage others to do the same.
