In early 2026, Charles F. Millhouse<\/a><\/strong>, creator of New Pulp character Captain Stephen Hawklin<\/a><\/strong>, came out with a new collection of short stories set in the 1930s: The Classic Adventures of Captain Hawklin<\/em>, one for each year from 1930 to 1939.<\/p>\n

This is a prelude to his upcoming novel, Stormgate<\/em>, that will cross over Hawklin with several of his other heroes and characters like Purple Mystique<\/a><\/strong>, Night Vision<\/a><\/strong>, Zane Carrington<\/a><\/strong>, Jack Saxxon<\/a><\/strong>, and more. It’s set in 1940 after these stories, but before Captain Hawklin at War<\/em>. This will come out in summer 2026. Once again, cover design is by Jeffrey Ray Hayes<\/a><\/strong>, who has been working on all the recent Hawklin and Stormgate books.<\/p>\n

This volume has Hawklin and his associates, Hardy Miller<\/strong> and Oz Lyman<\/strong>, get involved with stories that will take them around the globe. Along the way, they will meet some new and old allies, face new (and old) foes, and start revealing something that will relate to that upcoming story.<\/p>\n

1930 finds Hawklin and his friends in Coast City, as he is building his Silver Bridge and now his airfield. Hawklin receives a message from an old friend from the war, who disappeared during that time. When he meets up with him, Hawklin finds him badly hurt from a fight and only able to pass on a little info before they are confronted by a group of men demanding something from Hawklin. Thanks to Hardy and Oz, he is able to overcome them, and they go see Professor Lucas Gray<\/strong>, whom they first meet in Egypt, for help understanding what is going on. It’s tied to a deep secret from the Knights Templar, now protected by the Freemasons. Can Hawklin and friends stop a mad cult from endangering the world?<\/p>\n

In 1931, Hawklin is approached by the US Government to help them retrieve a cipher machine in Istanbul. Hawklin does so alone, but of course, this will not be a walk in the park. He meets and then works with an MI-6 agent, and while he succeeds, he is not happy with the outcome and refuses to work with the government in the future.<\/p>\n

In 1932, Hawklin enters a cross-country air race from Crown City to New York City that includes Jimmy Doolittle<\/strong> and the royal prince of a Middle Eastern nation. And you know it won’t be a simple race, but one with dangers. He meets Frankie Yale<\/strong>, who he will recruit for his Clandestine Wing as its third member.<\/p>\n

In 1933, after a recent event, including the one where he met his previously unknown half-sister, Hawklin decides to get away from it all briefly in the mountains near Crown City. But when he doesn’t return, Hank, Oz, and Frankie go looking for him. Can they save him from an old foe wanting to find hidden information before he permanently harms Hawklin?<\/p>\n

In 1934, Hawklin’s sister, Juno Li<\/strong>, needs help. So Hawklin, accompanied by Oz and Frankie, heads to China. Juno and her friends have run afoul of a local “general,” and they must work against him without other help. Will they be able to stop him and rescue Juno’s friends?<\/p>\n

In 1935, Hawklin and his friends are approached by a mysterious genius, Alexander Challenger<\/strong>, who informs them of a new threat to the world. We (and Hawklin) learn about the “four cornerstones” of the world, some of which Hawklin has encountered. They need to find another and stop an immortal from destroying the world. This is the first story to directly tie into the upcoming “Stormgate” event. I wonder if we will see Alexander Challenger in the future?<\/p>\n

In 1936, Hawklin finds himself in another race, thanks to Oz, Hank, and Frankie. Though this one is a desert car race! And as usual, there will be danger and excitement.<\/p>\n

In 1937, Professor Gray contacts Hawklin regarding the part of a map he found a few years prior. He thinks he knows where the rest can be found. But when Hawklin, Hank, and Oz show up, someone tries to steal it, but they are able to get it back. So someone else is interested in it. The map is tied to a lost civilization in Africa, though the map they found was in Asia. And the rest is apparently in Chile. So the group, joined by Frankie, heads out. Getting to Chile, they meet Jack Saxxon for the first time. And they learn that an old foe is also after it. The rest of the map is in a sunken chamber. Can they get it without their foe gaining it? And Hawklin learns the map is connected to Stormgate.<\/p>\n

In 1938, Desa Wintergreen<\/strong>, Hawklin’s girlfriend, shows up. She joined the U.K.’s Shadow Men, a secretive group of spies. She is there to enlist his help with stopping an assassination. While they succeed, who was the target and who was involved is not clear.<\/p>\n

In 1939, we learn that Jack Saxxon and Frankie have been in Africa with the map half they found in Chile. But Frankie reaches out to Hawklin as they need help. So Hawklin and Oz, along with Dawson<\/strong>, one of Hawklin’s Crusaders, head out. They make a connection with Morgan Kane<\/strong>, who will guide them into the Congo. But an old villain is on their trail. Will they succeed in finding whatever the map leads them to, or will the villain succeed? And what is it that they are looking for? Is it tied to the cornerstones and Stormgate?<\/p>\n

At the end of the book, we get an updated chronology that fits these 10 stories into all the other Hawklin ones. I certainly look forward to Stormgate<\/em> and any future Hawklin adventures.
