As usual, nothing on the cover indicates the issue number or date, which is on purpose. I guess we’ll have to accept that.

It’s edited and published by Scott Tracy Griffin. You can contact him through his website to obtain a copy.

For this issue, the theme is the “sword-and-planet” stories of ERB, including the Barsoom, Venus/Amtor, and Moon stories. We get four articles by four authors. I think this issue is my favorite so far in the series.

We start off with an interview with Ronn Sutton by Scott Tracy Griffin and Gary A. Buckingham. Sutton was the artist for the Man-Eater comic strip done at ERB Inc., and has since moved on to doing the Carson of Venus strip, which is up to the fourth book, Escape on Venus. We learn about his career and influences, and what he will be working on next in the world of ERB.

Patrick Quilter looks at the connections or parallels with James Cameron‘s Avatar series and Burroughs’s works. He looked at more Burroughs series than I would expect, and also set down some of the recurring themes in his works. I was a bit surprised at the connections he found, but I’ve only watched the first Avatar movie.

Alan Hanson takes a look at color on Barsoom, examining the various races of men, plant and animal life, and more.

And Gary A. Buckingham looks at the science that inspired, and refuted, Burroughs’s planetary romances. We actually start with a survey of scientists and philosophers such as Aristotle, Hipparchus, Eratosthenes, and on up to Albert Einstein. There are also some excerpts from his fiction as well.

Like all the other issues, this is another great issue. It’s been a year since the first issue came out, so it looks to be loosely a quarterly publication. I look forward to the next one, whatever the subject will be.

We got the fourth issue of RevERBerate, a fanzine devoted to Edgar Rice Burroughs, in May 2026.
