Pulpcon 35: Day three

DAYTON, Ohio – It was a busy day today. The morning started with a trip to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson Air Force Base (how could you pass that up?). Then a stop at the Bookery in nearby Fairborn.

After lunch, we – Bill Mann, Chris and David Kalb, Scott and Patrick Cranford and I – headed back to Pulpcon.

Shortly after arriving, we met up with Duane Spurlock to say goodbye after a whirlwind 24-hour visit to Pulpcon. Duane had to get home for his wedding anniversary.

By the time the dealers’ room closed at 5 p.m. Saturday, a large portion of the dealers had backed up and departed the show. It looks like there will be just over half remaining for Sunday’s final session.

Don Ramlow reported that around 67 Pulpcon attendees went to the banquet at the Spaghetti Warehouse. The dinner ran long, so the evening activities got underway about 20 minutes late.

Saturday’s guest of honor, Phil Klass (aka William Tenn), provided an entertaining hour of tales of writing for the science fiction pulps. (I plan to post the audio of the session within the next couple of days, so check back.)

The Pulpcon players took the stage for a rendition of “Death Triangle,” an episode of The Shadow radio program.

The con’s second auction got under way following the radio play. Chris Kalb graciously agreed to provide highlights of the auction since I couldn’t stay. (So watch for that, too.)

I’ve got an early flight out of Cincinnati tomorrow, so I’ve got to cut the evening short (hence, the brief report from today). I’ll post more photos and information later Sunday.

’Til then.

– William
