The Spider makes a big return

Several years ago, it seemed like everyone who was a pulp fan was building a Web site devoted to a pulp character, genre or the pulps in general. There were new pulp-related Web sites popping up monthly, if not weekly sometimes. That’s not so much the case these days, as fewer people are building new sites. But Chris Kalb doesn’t fall into that category.

Chris says he was inspired by last year’s PulpCon to sit down at his Mac and build a brand new site devoted to Popular Publication’s character pulp, The Spider. A year later (and just before this year’s PulpCon), Chris introduced The Spider Returns.

Wow! That’s the first word that comes to mind regarding Chris’ new Web site.

He’s put together more than 500 pages of information pertaining to The Spider. Everything from information about the different characters and the authors and artists to essays on The Spider, information about The Spider pulps, the reprints, comics, serials and collectibles. Chris also has created desktops based on the pulp covers and movie serial photos, as well as screensavers for Mac OS X and Windows.

There’s also a nifty bookmark with The Spider art on the outside, and a handy checklist of story titles inside (with blocks to check off if you’ve got the pulp, the reprint or have read the story).

You’ll also find multimedia bits from his old Spider site, which he has left online.

Chris doesn’t just build a plain ol’ Web site. He slips in surprises throughout (just like on his classic Doc Savage site, the 86th Floor, and his G-8 site.).

You’ll find plenty of information and entertainment at The Spider Returns. Thanks, Chris, for a new must-see pulp site!
