Last Saturday’s Doc Con IX was a blast. Rather than reinvent the wheel with my own recap of the Con, I thought I would offer you Courtney Rogers’ superamalgamated version — assuming he doesn’t mind.

Courtney offered this summary on the Doc Con group at Yahoo:

Wow! Doc Con #9 was a smash!

We had 15 participants… the largest ever. Activities included Jay Ryan‘s stupendous Doc Savage Jr. Science Detective game, Glenn Horner‘s always clever and punning Doc paperback cover game, we enacted my radio play “The Power Czar” (it was fun being Kenneth Robeson), we watched video from the LaPlata con, we had a raffle and giveaways, and just great bronze fellowship!

Some of the items we received were a beautiful Doc book by Howard (Kenneth Robeson) Wright (thanks Howard!), a Doc Con 2006 swag cloth bag from Phil Matthews, homemade wooden Hidalgo Trading Co. box filled with anaesthetic gas bombs and replica Empire State Building statues from Glenn Horner, Arizona Fans of Bronze logo magnets from Rob Smalley, a box set slipcase cover featuring The Submarine Mystery from me, and other items (sorry if I forgot something!).

Jack Suto brought plenty of items for sale, Pat Lilja had his magnificent Doc Double 127/128 for sale, Jay Ryan had gorgeous Doc Con 2006 and LaPlata Doc Con shirts for sale… the list goes on.

The four new Doc related print items were discussed… New Bama book from Flesk Publications, new Doc and Shadow reprints from Sanctum Productions, and the newly-announced Handbook of Bronze and How I Discovered Doc Savage books from Solace of Fortitude Publications and available at www.lulu.com.

Jay was a wonderful host who put his heart and soul into the con. Thanks, Jay.

Special thanks to all of our out of town brothers who came, and welcome to four new Arizona Brothers of Bronze. We’re glad to have you with us.

Attendees: Rick Martin (Ariz.), Frank Burgett (Calif.), Peter Wrobel (Calif.), Jeff Budd (Calif.), Pat Lilja (Minn.), Glenn Horner (N.M.), Jack Suto (Ariz.), Rob Smalley (Ariz.), Paul Cook (Ariz.), Scott Ham (Ariz.), Steve Ringgenberg (Ariz.), Jay Ryan (Ariz.), William Lampkin (Ariz.), Phil Matthews (Ariz.), and Courtney Rogers (Ariz.).

This e-mail barely touches what we did from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., but we had a blast!

Thanks, Courtney, for your report.
