Mark your calendar for Saturday, Nov. 3. That’s the date for Doc Con X, the 10th annual gathering in Arizona of Doc Savage fans.
This year’s con will be at Rob Smalley’s house in Chandler, Ariz. Rob’s one of the key reasons there have been nine Doc Cons in Arizona so far. His love of the character and his motivation to get Doc Savage fans off their bums and meeting face-to-face with other Doc fans led to the annual gathering. And, I might add, the success of the Arizona gathering encouraged Wayne Skiver and others to start an annual gathering in SupremeAdventurer.com.
Rob’s site includes a tentative schedule for Doc Con X, as well as the typical events that happen during the con. (If you’d be interested in holding a Doc Con — or a pulp gathering — in your area, Rob’s page has plenty of ideas to help you get started. It would be worth the effort, too.)
Meanwhile, the Arizona area gang is planning another “Doc Day” get-together for Saturday, March 17. The Doc Days are a time for planning for the next con and a time for fellowship. They’re informal, so there’s time to discuss the latest in pulp news, who’s reading what, who’s written what, and more.
If you’re in the Phoenix area and would like to attend the Doc Day, drop me a line or click over to the Doc Con group on Yahoo for more details. It’d be great to have you.
