Over at Anne Thompson‘s Thompson on Hollywood blog, director Guillermo del Toro talks about “At the Mountains of Madness,” a film he’s working on with James Cameron that’s based on a novella by H.P. Lovecraft.

Del Toro’s “Mountains” comments come toward the end of the first and midway through the third of the three videos Thompson filmed with her Flip videocam.

Hearing that he’s attached to the film is exciting (he’s excited about it, too). He brings an interesting gothic and unique quality to his films, making them more than just horror pictures. It’ll be interesting to see what comes up when his vision of monsters combines with Lovecraft’s.

I’ve put “At the Mountains of Madness” — it originally appeared as a serial in Astounding in 1936 — on my reading stack.

P.S. Thanks to Walker Martin for noticing that I’d written Amazing Stories instead of Astounding. It’s corrected.
