Jon Tuska, an anthologist and historian of the pulp western, died Jan. 18, 2016, at his home in Portland, Ore., after a brief battle with cancer. He was 73.
Tuska ran Golden West Literary Agency, with his wife, Vicki Piekarski, which managed the literary estates of a number of western authors, including Max Brand, Walt Coburn and Les Savage Jr. In a post at Mystery*File in 2008, Tuska wrote about western collections and how the agency came about.
Tuska was a Guest of Honor at Pulpcon 31 in 2002. He wrote introductions for several western pulp anthologies, and articles for pulp fanzines including Purple Prose and Pulp Vault.
A hat-tip to Bill Crider, who posted a notice of Tuska’s death on his blog, Bill Crider’s Pop Culture Magazine, late Friday afternoon.
