‘We Are Doc Savage’

As you’ve guessed from my past posts, I consider fandom important. It’s what draws us together, where we make friends.

We Are Doc SavageDoc Savage has been an important part of my pulp fandom since I started reading the Bantam paperback reprints in the 1970s. That continued when I discovered other pulp and Doc fans online in the 1990s, and when I joined up Rob Smalley, Courtney Rogers, Jay Ryan, and all of the others who organized and attended the Arizona Doc Cons.

With this in mind, I wanted to call attention to We Are Doc Savage, a Kickstarter project organized by Ron Hill.

I had a chance to visit with Ron at PulpFest 50. He’s a Doc fan like many of us, and he wants to share the story of that fandom with a larger audience by producing a documentary.

As he writes on the film’s website: “To the world at large, the Man of Bronze is a man of mystery. So mysterious, in fact, that he is largely forgotten. Except to the legions of fans who have kept Doc Savage’s legacy alive, through their lives and passions. This is their story.

It could be your story, too.

You can read more about the project on Kickstarter and on the movie’s webpage. Check the Kickstarter updates for clips of some of the interviews that Ron has already conducted.

I don’t often (almost never) recommend Kickstarter projects, but this is one I encourage you to support if you can. The Kickstarter ends at the end of August. So don’t delay.

UPDATED | I was disappointed to see that Ron and company have called off the Kickerstarter campaign a day early. Unfortunately, the goal was still almost $8,000 away. Hopefully they will regroup (as Ron mentioned) and the project will go forward in some fashion.
