So that got me thinking about my reading habits.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_116\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-116\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2010\/08\/operator5.jpg?resize=150%2C218&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Operator #5\" width=\"150\" height=\"218\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-116\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Operator #5<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Lately, I\u2019ve been reading five to 10 <em>Doc Savage<\/em> books back-to-back every so often over the summer in preparation for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.supremeadventurer.com\/DocConMainPage.html\">Arizona Doc Con<\/a>\u2019s quiz time.<\/p>\n<p>I can read one after the other without feeling as if I\u2019m about to overdose on Doc. Except for the occasional lug nut by someone other than <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/wikka.php?wakka=DentLester\">Lester Dent<\/a>, the <em>Docs<\/em> are well paced, cleanly written and pretty entertaining.<\/p>\n<p>I can do the same with <em>The Shadow<\/em>, though it has been a long time since I\u2019ve read more than three or four consecutively. The same with <em>The Spider<\/em>. I can\u2019t say I\u2019ve read many other pulp series in CostCo-like bulk quantities. Except&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Operator #5<\/em>, and those really get to me. I can only handle about one of those at a time.
