Since then I&#8217;ve been keeping my eye out for more and higher-quality photos of news stands displaying pulp magazines.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s actually quite fun searching for photos of yesterday&#8217;s pulp racks, then trying to determine when the photo was taken. I&#8217;ve had some luck on eBay over the past couple of years.<\/p>\n<p>The latest addition to the collection is this photo of a young woman surrounded by magazines from early 1934. (A larger version now resides in <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulp-info\/pulp-history\/pulp-photos\/\">the gallery<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulp-info\/pulp-history\/pulp-photos\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2012\/04\/4302-news-girl-sm.jpg?resize=410%2C316&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" title=\"Young woman at a news stand in early 1943.\" width=\"410\" height=\"316\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1775\" style=\"padding-bottom:15px;\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2012\/04\/4302-news-girl-sm.jpg?w=410&amp;ssl=1 410w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2012\/04\/4302-news-girl-sm.jpg?resize=300%2C231&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Most obvious are <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/UnknownMagazine\"><em>Unknown Worlds<\/em><\/a> (February 1943) and <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/AstoundingScienceFiction\"><em>Astounding Science-Fiction<\/em><\/a> (March 1943) pulps sitting side-by-side in the upper left of the photo. In the original 8&#215;10, you can see the spines of <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/ArmyNavyFlyingStories\"><em>Army-Navy Flying Stories<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/PopularSports\"><em>Popular Sports<\/em><\/a> pulps stacked on the left below what look like cigarettes.<\/p>\n<p>The top row, which is mostly hidden by shadow, hints at covers showing women in distress. (See the blowup below.)
