The publishing world lost a legend when Leonard P. Leone Sr.<\/a><\/strong> passed away on July 1, 2013. He was 89.<\/p>\n

Len was the Art Director at Bantam Books for 30 years from 1955 to 1984. His innovations and the use of top illustrators helped to propel Bantam to become a giant in the paperback book world.<\/p>\n

Len\u2019s use of a Who\u2019s Who list of artists included James Bama<\/a><\/strong>, Bob Larkin<\/strong>, Fred Pfeiffer<\/a><\/strong>, Boris Vallejo<\/strong>, Lou Feck<\/strong>, Tom Lovell<\/strong>, Robert Maguire<\/a><\/strong>, Bob Peak<\/strong>, Barye Phillips<\/strong>, Robert Abbett<\/strong>, Dean Cornwall<\/strong>, Sandy Kossin<\/strong>, John Berkely<\/strong>, Vincent DiFate<\/strong>, Roger Kastel<\/strong>, James Avati<\/strong>, Ron Lesser<\/strong>, Bernie Fuchs<\/strong>, Mitchell Hooks<\/strong>, and many, many more.<\/p>\n

\"Bantam's
Bantam’s Doc Savage logo<\/figcaption><\/figure>Doc Savage<\/strong> fans owe a huge debt of gratitude to Len as he influenced the decision to reprint the pulp stories, designed Bantam’s Doc Savage logo and book lettering, hired Bama for the art, and directed him to give Doc his iconic widow\u2019s peak and musculature.<\/p>\n

The world will never see another Len Leone. Thanks for all the incredible eye candy, Len, RIP.<\/p>\n
