Today’s post takes a different approach from most at Yellowed Perils. It’s more of a roundup of items I want to call your attention to.<\/p>\n

The Shadow Fan<\/a><\/h4>\n

Barry Reese<\/strong>, librarian and New Pulp<\/a> author, added podcaster to his resume a while back. If you haven’t tuned into his pulp podcast, “The Shadow Fan<\/a>,” you’ve been missing out.<\/p>\n

I’ve enjoyed Barry’s enthusiasm for one of my favorite pulp heroes. It’s clearly one of his favorites, too. (Now if Barry would only start using a shock-mounted microphone.)<\/p>\n

Uslan<\/figcaption><\/figure>Today’s episode is No. 50. And to mark the occasion, Barry has a special guest lined up: Michael Uslan<\/a><\/strong>. Uslan worked on The Shadow<\/a><\/strong> comics back in the 1970s and ’80s, and is now a film producer, with the recent Batman<\/strong> trilogy and the upcoming Doc Savage<\/strong> movie.<\/p>\n

He has been attached to a potential movie featuring The Shadow, but there has been little talk of it recently. Maybe he will have some big news to share.<\/p>\n

Heinlein’s predictions<\/h4>\n

Isaac Asimov<\/a><\/strong>‘s technological predictions<\/a> from 1964 have been making the rounds on the Internet for the past few weeks. Now it’s time for a turn by his sf compatriot Robert Heinlein<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While Asimov was pretty accurate, Heinlein’s prognostications were, well, not so much. Take for instance:<\/p>\n

“10. By the end of this century mankind will have explored this solar system, and the first ship intended to reach the nearest star will be a-building.”<\/p>\n
