These mashups of Cthulhu<\/strong> and the “Peanuts” comic strip gave me a chuckle. So I thought I would share them.<\/p>\n

They’re by Baz<\/strong>, “a game artist and tee designer enthusiast.” You can see his Cthulhu creations and more at his Tumblr site<\/a>.<\/p>\n

PRESIDENTS AND THE PULPS:<\/strong> I’ve read where several presidents enjoyed reading the pulps. Theodore Roosevelt<\/strong> is said to have read Adventure<\/a><\/em>, which makes sense. Harry S Truman<\/strong> was also a fan of it.<\/p>\n

Woodrow Wilson<\/strong> supposedly enjoyed Black Mask<\/em>. And I’ve seen indications that Franklin Delano Roosevelt<\/strong> may have enjoyed the detective pulps.<\/p>\n

This list at Buzzfeed<\/a> notes that Barack Obama<\/strong> is an avid collector of comic books, including Conan the Barbarian<\/em>.<\/p>\n

He’s about the right age to have read the paperback reprints back in the ’70s, too. Can we count him as a pulp fan?<\/p>\n

SMART-ALECK INFLUENCED:<\/strong> Evan Lewis<\/strong> writes a guest post<\/a> at Trace Evidence<\/a>, the blog of the editor of Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine<\/a><\/em>. Lewis’ latest story “Mr. Crockett and the Longrifle” appears in the May 2014 issue of that digest.<\/p>\n

He discusses how smart-aleck characters from the Doc Savage<\/a><\/strong> paperbacks and pulp fictioneers such as Dashiell Hammett<\/a><\/strong>, Frederick Nebel<\/a><\/strong> and Norbert Davis<\/a><\/strong> influenced his writing style.<\/p>\n
