Robinson<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"agate\" style=\"padding-bottom:10px;\">Updated: <strong>July 1, 2014<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Longtime pulp fictioneer, collector and fan <strong>Frank M. Robinson<\/strong> died Monday, June 30, 2014. He was 87.<\/p>\n<p>According to his website bio, Robinson started collecting pulps when he was 16, in 1942, including a number of <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Weird Tales<\/em> and <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Wonder Stories<\/em>. Soon after, he was working as an office boy at Ziff-Davis in Chicago, publisher of <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Amazing Stories<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He had stories published in <em>Astounding<\/em>, <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Amazing Stories<\/em>, <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Beyond Fantasy Fiction<\/em> and <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Fantastic<\/em>, among others. His novel, &#8220;The Glass Inferno, written with <strong>Thomas N. Scortia<\/strong>, was one of two books that formed the basis for the hit movie &#8220;Towering Inferno&#8221; in 1968.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->With <strong>Lawrence Davidson<\/strong>, Robinson produced &#8220;Pulp Culture,&#8221; an overview of the pulps featuring hundreds of color images, in 1998. He collaborated with <strong>Robert Weinberg<\/strong> and <strong>Randy Broecker<\/strong> on &#8220;Art of Imagination,&#8221; a 2002 book examining art in science fiction, fantasy and horror publications.<\/p>\n<p>He was given the <a href=\"https:\/\/pulpfest.com\/award-winners\/#lamont-award\">Lamont Award<\/a> at Pulpcon 29 in 2000 for his contributions to pulp fandom.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.adventurehouse.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adventure House<\/a> auctioned off Robinson&#8217;s pulp collection of more than 10,000 items.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LOCUS ONLINE:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/News\/2014\/06\/frank-m-robinson-1926-2014-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Locus magazine<\/a> posted an obituary for Robinson on Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MYSTERY*FILE:<\/strong> As part of his &#8220;Collecting Pulps&#8221; series of posts, <strong>Walker Martin<\/strong> has a fine remembrance of Robinson at the <a href=\"http:\/\/mysteryfile.com\/blog\/?p=27176\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mystery*File blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Updated: July 1, 2014.
