The overcast skies and chance of rain didn\u2019t deter the start of PulpCon 35. When the doors opened to the dealers\u2019 room at noon, dozens of pulp fans were waiting in line to scoop up the hot items.<\/p>\n<p>The volume of pulps on sale in the dealers\u2019 room is startling (to borrow a pulp superlative) and overwhelming for the first time. I circled the room at least twice, but it\u2019s going to take much more time to search for items on my \u201cwant list.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_734\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-734\" style=\"width: 405px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2010\/08\/pulpcon_060803_1.jpg?resize=405%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"The boxes and boxes of a new pulp collection recently purchased by E&amp;C Books drew keen interest early in the Con from fans looking for rare issues.\" width=\"405\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-full wp-image-734\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2010\/08\/pulpcon_060803_1.jpg?w=405&amp;ssl=1 405w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2010\/08\/pulpcon_060803_1.jpg?resize=300%2C167&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 405px) 100vw, 405px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-734\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The boxes and boxes of a new pulp collection recently purchased by E&amp;C Books drew keen interest early in the Con from fans looking for rare issues.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Attendees are still showing up, but in its first few hours, I\u2019ve had a chance to speak with <strong>Wooda \u201cNick\u201d Carr<\/strong> (as well as get him to sign his <em>Master of the Pulps: The Collected Essays of Nick Car<\/em> which I had just purchased from <strong>Ron Hanna<\/strong>), <strong>Ron Fortier<\/strong> (who was signing limited edition hardbacks of <em>Captain Hazzard: Python Men of the Lost City<\/em>), <strong>Ed Hulse<\/strong> (who was distributing the new Summer issue of <em>Blood \u2019n\u2019 Thunder<\/em>), brothers <strong>Leigh and Neil Mechem<\/strong> of Girasol Collectibles, <strong>Bill Mann<\/strong>, <strong>Scott and Patrick Cranford<\/strong>, <strong>Bill Thinnes<\/strong>, <strong>David Alexander<\/strong>, <strong>Robert Weinberg<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n<p>The dealers\u2019 room will be open until 8 tonight. Then it reopens at 10 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
