\""Astounding<\/a>Isaac Asimov<\/strong>‘s seminal science-fiction series Foundation began in the May 1942 number of Astounding Science-Fiction<\/em> in the novella titled “Foundation.” The next month “Bridle and Saddle” appeared.<\/p>\n

Between 1942 and 1950, Asimov wrote eight “Foundation” stories for Astounding<\/em>. Those first two stories, along with two subsequent ones and a new introductory part, became the first book of the initial trilogy, “Foundation.” The other four stories became “Foundation and Empire” and “Second Foundation.”<\/p>\n

Asimov wrote four more books in the series, but those did not originally appear in the pulps.<\/p>\n

Several years ago, I decided that I needed to read this series, and read all seven books in the original publication order. It was well worth the time. While Asimov’s stories tend to have more talk and less action than you’d expect in a pulp novel, the concept of telling a story that sweeps across the galaxy over the course of centuries is pretty fascinating. The series is well worth reading.<\/p>\n

Over the past 15 years, there has been talk of a movie adaptation of the series. But as with a lot of rumors about pulp-based movies, nothing has ever been produced.<\/p>\n

Now, there’s a report at The Wrap<\/a> that HBO and Warner Bros. TV is considering a “Foundation” series.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Nolan<\/strong>, co-writer with his brother, director Christopher Nolan<\/strong>, of “Interstellar,” may be the series’ writer and producer.<\/p>\n

I haven’t seen “Interstellar” yet, but I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt, despite mixed reviews. Jonathan Nolan seems to have several projects in development, but let’s hope this one goes through. It would be interesting to see how it would work on screen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
