For a bit of creepy fun in a pulp gift<\/a>, why not consider a movie based on an H.P. Lovecraft story?<\/p>\n

The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society<\/a> has a pair of films — “The Call of Cthulhu<\/a>” and “The Whisperer in Darkness<\/a>” — that would make great gifts.<\/p>\n

“Call” is a black-and-white, silent film done in an expressionistic style from the 1920s. “Whisperer,” still in black-and-white, looks as if it’s a talky from the 1930s. While they are adaptations of Lovecraft stories, don’t expect literal ones. There are some changes to better suit a film. But both are perfect for an evening of shivers.<\/p>\n
