Pulp AdventureCon got a good start with its first event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Saturday, Feb. 21.<\/p>\n

Rich Harvey<\/strong> has been holding a Pulp AdventureCon<\/a> in Bordertown, N.J., for the past 15 years, and after moving to the Fort Lauderdale area in 2014 decided to give it a shot down there. (Don’t worry, he will continue running Pulp AdventureCon in Bordertown; there will be two now each year.)<\/p>\n

It was the first pulp show in the Southeast since the Florida Paperback and Pulp Show in Tampa ended its short run back around 2001.<\/p>\n

There were a dozen different dealers set up there: Rich and his Bold Venture Press<\/a>; Audrey Parente<\/strong>, with her Theodore Roscoe<\/strong> biography, audio version of it, and other books; David T. Alexander<\/strong> of DTA Collectibles; C.J.’s Comics & Collectibles<\/a> of Oakland Park, Fla.; Joseph Lovece<\/a><\/strong>, with his dime novels; Scott Hartshorn<\/strong>; Michael Hudson<\/a><\/strong>; Jeff Shanks<\/a><\/strong>; Nicky Wheeler-Nicholson<\/a><\/strong>; David Spurlock<\/strong> of Vanguard Productions<\/a>; Heartwood Auctions<\/a>; and me, with a small collection of pulp fanzines and back issues of The Pulpster<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

I didn’t get a final count on attendance, but I’m guessing around 60 folks visited the show. Among those attending were fellow Tallahassee pulp fan Mike Hunter<\/strong>, who rode down with Jeff and me; Michael Brown<\/strong>, who writes our Pulp Super-Fan blog<\/a>; Daryl Herrick<\/strong> and his son; Bob Deis<\/a><\/strong>; Rich Oberg<\/a><\/strong> and his wife; Morgan Wallace<\/strong>; and Ray Skirsky<\/strong>, who wins the award for greatest distance traveled to attend. Ray flew in from San Diego for the show, and combined it with a few days visiting Miami. I know I’ve left out some of you who attended.<\/p>\n

In addition to the actual show, a number of us got together for dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings to talk pulps, share stores and get to know each other better. There was talk of continuing the show, as well as possibly holding a smaller get-together for pulp fans in a more central location in the Southeast.<\/p>\n
