Lovecraft<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aug. 20 was the 125th anniversary of the birth of horror&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/LovecraftHP\">H.P. Lovecraft<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>There wasn&#8217;t much noted about HPL here at <em>Yellowed Perils<\/em>, but the anniversary was certainly important at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pulpfest.com\" target=\"_blank\">PulpFest<\/a> 2015. You can hear more about HPL and the influence of his fiction if you <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/pulp-info\/convention-coverage\/pulpfest-2015\/\">listen to the panel discussions<\/a> from the con.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;d rather listen to his fiction, then head over to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openculture.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Culture<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the anniversary of his birthday, Open Culture posted <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openculture.com\/2015\/08\/hear-dramatizations-of-h-p-lovecrafts-stories-on-his-birthday-the-call-of-cthulhu-the-dunwich-horror-more.html\" target=\"_blank\">links to dramatizations<\/a> of &#8220;At the Mountains of Madness,&#8221; &#8220;The Dunwich Horror,&#8221; &#8220;The Call of Cthulhu,&#8221; &#8220;Beyond the Walls of Sleep,&#8221; and other stories.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Wait until darkness, pull the curtains, dim the lights, and prepare to get the shivers.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/entertainment\/archive\/2015\/08\/hp-lovecraft-125\/401471\/\" target=\"_blank\">REANIMATING THE REANIMATOR<\/a><\/strong>: Over at <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Atlantic<\/a><\/em>, <strong>Philip Eil<\/strong> takes a critical look at HPL in &#8220;The Unlikely Reanimation of H.P. He was 77.<\/p>\n<p>Ned was one of a number of fans who I know Internetly, having never met him in person. We corresponded several times in the past 15 years about <strong>Hannes Bok<\/strong>. Ned wrote <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fanac.org\/Fannish_Reference_Works\/NedBrooks\/BOKINDEX.htm\" target=\"_blank\">The Hannes Bok Illustration Index<\/a><\/em> in 1970, and updated it in &#8217;74, &#8217;94, and 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Ned also wrote the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/BokHannes\">Hannes Bok<\/a><\/strong> entry in the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/\">PulpWiki<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mike Glyer<\/strong> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/file770.com\/?p=24667\" target=\"_blank\">nice remembrance of Ned<\/a> posted at his <em><a href=\"http:\/\/file770.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">File 770<\/a><\/em> blog.<\/p>\n<p>My condolences to his family and friends.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aug. 20 was the 125th anniversary of the birth of horror&#8217;s H.P.
