Aug. 20 was the 125th anniversary of the birth of horror’s H.P. Lovecraft<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There wasn’t much noted about HPL here at Yellowed Perils<\/em>, but the anniversary was certainly important at PulpFest<\/a> 2015. You can hear more about HPL and the influence of his fiction if you listen to the panel discussions<\/a> from the con.<\/p>\n

To celebrate the anniversary of his birthday, Open Culture posted links to dramatizations<\/a> of “At the Mountains of Madness,” “The Dunwich Horror,” “The Call of Cthulhu,” “Beyond the Walls of Sleep,” and other stories.<\/p>\n

REANIMATING THE REANIMATOR<\/a><\/strong>: Over at The Atlantic<\/a><\/em>, Philip Eil<\/strong> takes a critical look at HPL in “The Unlikely Reanimation of H.P. Lovecraft.”<\/p>\n

The subhead title sums up the article: “125 years after his birth, the author known for his eerie tales — and his racist beliefs — has had one of the biggest comebacks in Western literature.”<\/p>\n

Cuyler W. “Ned” Brooks Jr.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

RIP, NED BROOKS<\/a><\/strong>: On Aug. 31, 2015, word began circulating that Cuyler W. “Ned” Brooks Jr.<\/strong> had died after falling from his roof. He was 77.<\/p>\n

Ned was one of a number of fans who I know Internetly, having never met him in person. We corresponded several times in the past 15 years about Hannes Bok<\/strong>. Ned wrote The Hannes Bok Illustration Index<\/a><\/em> in 1970, and updated it in ’74, ’94, and 2012.<\/p>\n

Ned also wrote the Hannes Bok<\/a><\/strong> entry in the PulpWiki<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mike Glyer<\/strong> has a nice remembrance of Ned<\/a> posted at his File 770<\/a><\/em> blog.<\/p>\n
