I was even more thrilled at what I noticed while watching the season\u2019s second episode: pulp magazine covers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id='gallery'>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2008\/10\/pushing-amazingstories.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"lightbox[511]\"><figure id=\"attachment_513\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-513\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2010\/08\/pushing-teaser.jpg?w=1320&#038;ssl=1\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-513\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">ABC\u2019s Pushing Daisies (Click to see two larger versions.)<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2008\/10\/pushing-texasrangers.jpg\"  rel=\"lightbox[511]\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p>First is a quick glimpse of a trio of <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/wikka.php?wakka=TexasRangers\"><em>Texas Ranger<\/em><\/a> covers on Ned the Piemaker\u2019s bedroom wall a couple of minutes into the episode. Then a few minutes before the episode\u2019s end, you can see an <a href=\"http:\/\/thepulp.net\/PulpWiki\/wikka.php?wakka=AmazingStories\"><em>Amazing Stories<\/em><\/a> cover on Ned\u2019s living room wall. A moment later, you get a better look at the <em>Texas Rangers<\/em> covers in the bedroom again.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Amazing Stories<\/em> cover is from the October 1948 number. It\u2019s impossible to tell whether it is the cover of the actual pulp, or one of the many reprint posters that seem to be available on eBay and elsewhere online.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not familiar enough with <em>Texas Rangers<\/em> covers to quickly tell which issues those are. If someone recognizes them, please feel free to add the dates to the Comments portion of this entry.<\/p>\n<p>(You can get a look at frame grabs showing the pulp covers by clicking on the image above.)<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the Superman statue in <strong>Jerry Seinfeld<\/strong>\u2019s apartment on <em>Seinfeld<\/em>, the pulp covers in <em>Pushing Daisies<\/em> don\u2019t necessarily reveal that the show\u2019s producers are pulp fans. The series\u2019 set decorations are just as quirky as the series itself, so the sensational covers may have just appealed to the set designers.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, I can\u2019t wait for this week\u2019s episode to see if we get a better look at them, or if we see more elsewhere in Ned\u2019s apartment.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 William<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My family are big fans of ABC\u2019s comedy, Pushing Daisies, and we were thrilled when it returned for a second season two Wednesdays ago.
