Here’s an interesting item that hit the interwebs<\/a> yesterday: Disney has announced its next animated film, Strange World<\/em>. (Not to be confused with Paramount’s upcoming Star Trek<\/em> series, Strange New Worlds<\/em>.)<\/p>\n

\"Concept<\/a><\/p>\n

Disney Animation<\/a> posted the following, along with the concept art above, on its Twitter feed: “FIRST LOOK: Walt Disney Animation Studios\u2019 Strange World<\/em>, journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await. Directed by Don Hall<\/strong>, co-directed and written by Qui Nguyen<\/strong>, and produced by Roy Conli<\/strong>, Strange World<\/em> arrives November 23, 2022.”<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>The website Collider<\/a> quotes director Hall as saying: “I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up. They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for Strange World<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

That’s not a whole lot of information, but from the quote and the concept art, it could be a lost-world\/hollow-earth-type of adventure story. Pellucidar<\/a>, anyone?<\/p>\n

The creative staff has a strong background (Raya and the Last Dragon<\/em>, Big Hero 6<\/em>, Dispatches From Elsewhere<\/em>, etc.), so that’s promising. While they weren’t involved in The Incredibles<\/em> and The Adventures of Tintin<\/em>, I always thought those movies showed that you can make a great animated film based on stories from the pulps.<\/p>\n
