Just look at the confusion over the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/2021\/02\/12\/lets-be-clear-thats-not-buck-rogers\/\"><em class=\"pulp-magazine\" style=\"color: #800000;\">Amazing Stories<\/em> (August 1928) cover<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s another assumption that keeps getting passed around that needs correcting. The woman reading the March 1947 number of <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Weird Tales<\/em> in the photo at right is not pulp artist <strong>Margaret Brundage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This photo (or another one taken at a slightly different angle) regularly appears in social media posts and on websites with Brundage\u2019s name attached, and it\u2019s easy to see why. The woman has a passing resemblance to Brundage, and to add to the confusion, she&#8217;s reading <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Weird Tales<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I remembered reading somewhere that the photo had first appeared in <em>Life<\/em> magazine. But it took some digging to find which issue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6626\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6626\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2025\/10\/margaret-brundage.jpg?ssl=1\" rel=\"lightbox[6625]\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2025\/10\/brundage-mugshot.jpg?resize=150%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Margaret Brundage\" width=\"150\" height=\"225\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2025\/10\/brundage-mugshot.jpg?w=267&amp;ssl=1 267w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/thepulp.net\/yellowedperils\/files\/2025\/10\/brundage-mugshot.jpg?resize=200%2C300&amp;ssl=1 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6626\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Margaret Brundage<\/figcaption><\/figure>After paging through several months of the weekly magazine, I found \u201c<em>Life<\/em> Tours the Nightclubs at Miami Beach\u201d (March 3, 1947). The feature includes a brief introduction and 11 photos of chorus girls and celebrities enjoying Miami Beach nightlife and daytime leisure spots.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the <em class=\"pulp-magazine\">Weird Tales<\/em> photo didn\u2019t make the final layout, nor does it appear that the woman shows up in any of the published images.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/asset\/showgirls-in-florida\/qAFu-tYZxsgZnA?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the photo is among<\/a> a larger group from the same shoot included in the <a href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/partner\/life-photo-collection\" title=\"Life Photo Collection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Life Photo Collection<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/artsandculture.google.com\/\" title=\"Google Arts &#038; Culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Google Arts &#038; Culture<\/a>. The pictures were taken in January 1947 by <em>Life<\/em> magazine photojournalist <strong>Allan Grant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a shame we don\u2019t know the woman\u2019s name.
