‘Who’s Who in New Pulp’

'Who's Who in New Pulp'A very interesting project for New Pulp has appeared from Airship 27: Who’s Who in New Pulp (Airship 27). Spearheaded by Ron Fortier, this work collects entries on authors, artists, editors, reviewers, and publishers involved in New Pulp.

The project started up a couple of months ago, and was able to collect over 200 entries for this first edition. Yes, I really hope that in a few years we see another updated and expanded edition.

Full disclosure: Yes, I am listed there as I do reviews here for New Pulp works.

Each entry gives the person’s name, birth date, an address or location (depending on what was sent), contact info (email usually, but sometime website, Twitter, etc.), what they do (author, artist, editor, publisher, reviewer, etc., and some may do more then one thing) and then a write-up. The write-up covers what the person does, and ranges in length. Each person sent in their own entry. Also, many people submitted photos, a montage of which was used on the cover, which I think was very cool.

There are also several pages of artwork, all very good.

There are two appendices. The first lists publishers and magazines. I thought Cirsova should have been listed as a magazine, and felt Awesome Tales should have also been included. The second appendix listed reviewers.

This is a excellent volume, and I hope this will help in expanding the New Pulp field. As I went through it, I was wondering what could be improved for a future edition. I did see other entries like screenwriter, so hope we see more of those. And would like to see some additional appendices, such as listing all the authors, editors, artists, maybe a listing of people by location (everyone from each state, etc).

It would be cool to take a copy around at conventions and get signatures by everyone listed. What a cool souvenir.

I would like to think that someone who wants to write for New Pulp or is an artist, this would be a good resource for them. For those who read New Pulp, they might find new authors to read. Get this work and put it to use. I know I’ll be thumbing through it for ideas.
